Applying for a passport or identity card
You must personally apply for a passport or identity card (ID card) at the municipality where you are registered. In Ouder-Amstel, this can only be done by appointment. Make an appointment with the Civil Affairs department by calling (020) 496 21 21.

When applying, your current passport will be taken if it has expired. If your passport is still valid, you will hand it in when collecting or when having it delivered. If you want to keep your old passport, you can indicate this. It will be returned to you with perforations.
If your old passport still contains a valid visa, you must indicate that you do not want those pages to be perforated. Check with the consulate or embassy of the country to find out if the visa is still valid.
Traveling with children
If you plan to travel abroad with a minor child, you need permission from the parents with custody. Before traveling, you must have the correct documents in your possession. This includes the Consent form for permission to travel with a minor child abroad. The specific documents required depend on the personal situation. Emergency passport
In very exceptional cases and under strict conditions, you can apply for an emergency passport at english.marechaussee.nl.
The costs for a Dutch passport are (prices for 2024):
- for persons under 18 years old: €63.40
- for persons 18 years old and older: €83.85
The costs for a Dutch identity card are:
- for persons under 18 years old: €40.90
- for persons 18 years old and older: €75.80
If you want to apply for a passport or identity card urgently, an additional fee of €57.05 will be charged.
You can pick up your passport or identity card after 5 working days. If you haven't already done so during the application, please submit your old passport. You have 3 months to pick up the passport or identity card.
Urgent request for passport or ID card
If you submit an urgent request before 2 p.m., you can pick up your passport or identity card the next working day.
When applying, please bring:
- All travel documents you possess (both passports and identity cards). Even expired travel documents must be brought along. If you have dual nationality, please also bring your foreign travel document.
- 1 recent color passport photo, not older than 6 months at the time of application, complying with the passport photo requirements. For detailed information and photo requirements, please visit Rijksoverheid.nl.
You can pay for your passport or identity card in cash or by debit card at the time of application.
Passport or ID card for minors
Minors under the age of 14 need an ID card or passport for healthcare purposes. They must be able to identify themselves like everyone else when they require healthcare. Children traveling abroad also need their own ID card or passport.
Parental consent for passport or identity card applications
- Children up to 12 years of age need permission from both parents to apply for an ID card.
- Children up to 18 years of age need permission from both parents to apply for a passport.
- Both parents or guardians can give written consent by using the Consent form for permission to travel with a minor child abroad (pdf, 269 kB).
- Children must personally apply for and pick up a passport or identity card, regardless of their age.
- Is there no parent or guardian accompanying the application? The child must bring a copy of the identification documents of both parents or guardians along with the consent form.
- Is one parent or guardian accompanying the application? The parent or guardian should bring a copy of the identification documents of the other parent or guardian and must be able to identify themselves.
If you receive a new passport, your Citizen Service Number (burgerservicenummer) is stated on the back, both in readable numbers and in the QR code.
